Popular Mediterranean Ports
The Best Europe has to offer

Europe has some great cruise destinations to offer. Some in the north (Norway, England, The Netherlands) but the best are in the south. Mediterranean destinations like Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Greece are places a seasoned cruiser has to visit. Here are some of my favorites.

Newsbreak; the Mediterranean has three sides. Now how is that for a scoop, huh? What I mean is this. ‘Bleu’ (as many Europeans call the water that separates Europe and Africa) has European, African and ‘Arabian’ ports. Although the other two are definitely worth a visit, this article focuses on the northern Mediterranean ports of ancient Europe.

It’s often said that France is Paris and Paris is France. That is – excuse moi – BS. France is so much more then just its capital. The countryside is great and the southern ports like Marseille and Nice are some of the best Europe has to offer. Same goes with Italy. Rome is famous and so is Venice. But there is more and a cruise in the Mediterranean is the best way to discover these aristocratic European treasures.

Nice - as French as France can be
It is as French as France can be. The French city Nice is rich in cultural heritage characterized by its almost unaffected language Nicard. For the gourmet, Nice has some extraordinary restaurants and such tempting cuisine as bouillabaisse. The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art tops the rank of the attractions of Nice cruises. Promenade des Anglais, the Musee Matisse, and Monastere de Climiez are other watch worthy sites.

San Remo – flower power
We can call cruises to San Remo as flowery, in the literal sense. San Remo is like a large flower market and a big gaming spot. In addition, San Remo is known as being a fashionable resort. Historically it is known for the Conference of San Remo i.e. the ratification of the First World War's peace treaty.

Genoa - a must see
Italy's main port Genoa is famous for luxury cruises.  Lying in the Ligurian Sea, Genoa remains the most welcome of the Mediterranean destination choices after Marseille in France. Main attractions of Genoa include the Civic Museum of the White Palace, Cattedrale di San Lorenzo Campanile, Piazza San Matteo and other beautiful sites.

Cannes – fashionable & expensive
The fashionable French Riviera gives Cannes a touch of class. One main attraction of Cannes is its vicinity to the Maritime Alps which is a popular mountain bordering on the frontiers of Italy and France. Bring your snowboard :). Other attractions of Cannes include the InterContinental Carlton Beach, Musee de la Castre, Forville Market and La Croisette etc.

Monaco - aristocratic
The ‘not tax’ sovereign state of Monaco attracts tourist cruises by its natural seaside location and its famous Monaco Casino. Situated close to France on the Mediterranean coast, Monaco has tourist attractions like Exotic Garden, Les Grands Appartements du Palais, Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium etc.

"Is that all…?"
No way. Not even close. I could tell you more about Barcelona, some famous destinations in Greece or more east, Bodrum and Kuzedasi in Turkey. And I will. In due time.

Did you know you can submit your own articles? Tell the rest of the world about your cruise. Isn’t that fun? Go to ‘Submit articles’ on the left and you’ll see how easy it is. I love to hear your cruise stories!
