”If I say cruise, you say Caribbean. How sad!”
Let's do a little experiment...
To most people a cruise is synonym to
the Caribbean. Or Hawaii. It’s my own estimate, not at all backed
up by any survey whatsoever, that – at least!- 9 out of 10
first-timers cruise to either one of those destinations. That’s
ok, but please let me at least tell you about some other beautiful
destinations.
Ask somebody, anybody, to close his/her eyes, think of a cruise
and he or she has glorifying visions of tropical cocktails, white
beaches, palm trees and girls doing the hula. The Communication
Departments of both the Caribbean and Hawaii did an outstanding job
– that’s for sure.
Please, don’t get me wrong. A cruise to Aruba,
The Virgin islands, Hawaii or any other tropical destination, is indeed
unique and memorable. These islands were created for one reason and one
reason only: to give a luxurious cruise liner a destination.
But let’s say – for arguments sake –
that the Caribbean is closed for a couple of months and Hawaii sinks.
Hard to believe, I know. But who cares. We are creative people.
Let’s think outside the box for a while. Are you with me? Cool.
Let’s go on.
Remember: both Hawaii and the Caribbean are gone. No
more white sandy beaches, no more girls doing the hula, no more steel
drums. Now close your eyes and think ‘cruise’. What comes
to mind?
………?
My guess is you were totally blank. Nothing came up.
Right? That’s because our brains haven’t got a glue what a
cruise would look like if there where no cocktails or palm trees. Well,
let’s educate your brain a little :) Any place that enthralls
your eye and excites your spirits can be a target destination for a
cruise.
Greece and Turkey
The ocean east of Greece and west of Turkey is a textbook cruise
destination. There are a zillion islands to visit, the weather is
tropical and very dependable. Visit the historical city of Bodrum in
Turkey. It’s like sailing back in time some 500 years. On the
other side, just a couple of hours sailing is Greece with it’s
rich cultural assets and elegant classical architecture. Like I said,
it’s a textbook cruise destination, but nothing, except the
weather, will remind you of the Caribbean or Hawaii. It’s an
eye-opener that will feed your brain with colorful pictures and
memories for a lifetime.
Africa
One of the ideal spots for cruises is North Africa including the whole
line along Egypt, Libya, and Morocco. One enjoys equally well the fancy
accommodations provided both on the land and on the ships. The
archaeological sites of North Africa, especially the Egyptian Pyramids,
are a not-to-miss part of the cruises. Countries like Morocco and
Algiers have great beach resorts that become increasingly popular by
European tourists looking for a sunny winter break because of the
stable climate.
Costa Rica
The thick, lush rainforests of Costa Rica attract the nature lover more
than any other spot for cruises. Prepare to meet rare and beautiful
species of wildlife that scared the s.. out of me when I was there the
first time, back in the late ‘90’s. The climate is rather
warm and the beaches are naturally beautiful.
Antarctica
Antarctica? Yes, Antarctica! Antarctica has its own unique aura of
enjoyment. Probably the most ‘different’ destinations of
them all. Given its climate, you need to prepare a bit differently for
a cruise to Antarctica. But if you don’t mind the cold and are
open for a completely different experience, Antarctica is definitely a
destination to consider. I promises you: you will never forget what
this destination has in store for you. Breathtaking is the only word
that comes to mind. I could write a million articles about it. And some
day I will.
Did you know you can
submit your own articles? Tell the rest of the world about your cruise.
Isn’t that fun? Go to ‘Submit articles’
on the left and you’ll see how easy it is. I love
to hear your cruise stories!
Cruise and have Fun!
